- For Mulled Berry Juice
- 750 ml (3 cups) berry juice (lingonberry, cranberry, or mixed berry)
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 star anise
- 2 green cardamom pods
- 4 cloves
- 1 orange
- Maple syrup or honey, to taste (if needed)
- Almond flakes, for garnish
- Dried cranberries, for garnish
- NOTE: Some ingredients can be replaced with their vegan counterparts.
Instructions
- 1
Using a knife, peel the orange and cut the peel into thin strips. Wrap the strips around a chopstick to form curls. Set aside for decoration.
- 2
Add the berry juice to a saucepan. You can also add 1 cup of water to dilute it, if needed.
- 3
Add the cinnamon stick, star anise, cardamom pods, cloves, and the remaining orange peel to the saucepan. I am using store-bought sweetened juice here, but you can add maple syrup or honey if you are using unsweetened juice.
- 4
Bring to a boil medium heat and simmer for about 5 minutes on medium-low heat. Taste and sweeten, if needed.
- 5
Remove only the orange peel. Keep the whole spices in the juice for continued flavor, or strain the juice if you prefer.
- 6
Pour it into heat proof glasses or cups.
- 7
Top with almond flakes and dried cranberries, garnish with orange peel curls, and serve hot.
