Southern Chocolate Gravy and Biscuits

Thick, rich, and luscious chocolate gravy gives a smooth glazy finish to your regular biscuits or any baked treat. Use it as a topping or simply dip your treats into a warm bowl of chocolatey goodness. You’ll surely be so addicted with this ingredient that you might just put it on everything. I won’t blame you, I would too if I were you.

Ingredients

Quantities are shown as originally provided.

  • ⅓ cup (39.33g) cocoa
  • 3 tablespoons (30g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5g) salt
  • 1 12-ounce evaporated milk
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, (softened)
  • 2 teaspoons (8.4g) vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. 1

In a medium bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt until fully mixed.

  2. 2

Slowly stir in the evaporated milk into the flour mixture until fully combined.

  3. 3

Pour into a medium saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently. As soon as it boils, reduce the heat and continue cooking until it's smooth and thick like a gravy, about 7 to 10 minutes.

  4. 4

Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract into the mixture until the butter is melted. Serve immediately with these Flaky Biscuits HERE, or its bigger counterpart - Cathead Biscuits (recipe coming up soon).
