Easy Homemade Mincemeat
This Easy Homemade Mincemeat recipe is a vegetarian version made with a variety of fresh, dried, and candied fruits, coconut oil, brown sugar, brandy, citrus zest and juice, and ground spices.

Ingredients
Quantities are shown as originally provided.
- 3/4 cup golden raisins
- 1 cup dried currants
- 1/2 cup candied peel
- 4 pieces of candied ginger
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp cardamom
- 1/4 tsp cloves
- 1 granny smith apple
- 1/2 lemon - zest and juice
- 1/2 lime - zest and juice
- 1/4 cup brandy

Peel the apple and dice it up.

Also chop up the candied ginger slices.

Then, add apple, golden raisins, currants, mixed peel, candied ginger, coconut oil, brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, lemon zest and juice, lime zest and juice, and 2 tbsp of the brandy into a heavy bottom pan.

Place pan on stovetop and set heat to low. Cover pan and simmer ingredients for 30 minutes.

Then, uncover and let simmer for another 15 minutes, stirring every five minutes or so.

Remove pan from heat and turn stove off.

Add the remaining brandy into the pan with the dried fruit and stir well.

Use to make mincemeat pies (using this recipe or this recipe for the crust) or spoon into glass containers, seal and store in the refrigerator for up to a month.
