Ingredients
Quantities are shown as originally provided.
- 1.5 cups neutral oil (vegetable oil, canola, soy bean, or grapeseed are great options) 1
- 6-8 tbsp chili flakes (Sichuan chili flakes are best, but you can also use dried Chinese chilies or Korean gochugaru) 2
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1/2 tsp salt, to taste

In a heat-proof bowl, combine together the chili flakes, soy sauce, sesame seeds, and salt.

Heat your neutral oil to around 250-300 F, or when a wooden chopstick/spoon sizzles when submerged in the oil.

Pour the hot oil over the chili flakes and immediately stir to evenly distribute the oil and to avoid burning the chilies 3.

Taste the oil and season with more salt and/or soy sauce to taste. Store in an airtight container and let cool completely prior to refrigerating and serving 4.
