  • 200 g Chana Dal
  • 1 L Water
  • 1 Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Chilli Powder
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • Coriander

Instructions

  1. 1

Rinse the chana dal thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.

  2. 2

In a large saucepan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent.

  3. 3

Add the drained chana dal to the saucepan. Stir well to combine with the onions and garlic.

  4. 4

Pour in the water and add the ground turmeric, cumin, coriander, red chilli powder, and salt to taste. Stir to combine.

  5. 5

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the saucepan and simmer for 40-45 minutes, or until the chana dal is tender.

Once the chana dal is cooked, remove from heat. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

  7. 7

Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
