Sautéed Chinese Yam

Sauteed Chinese Yam is my favorite way of cooking Chinese yam. It keeps the crunchy texture of this root vegetable. This dish can be a perfect side dish for meals.

  • 1/2 long Chinese yam (peel the skin and cut into thicker slices)
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable cooking oil or butter
  • 1 tbsp. light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp. cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp. chopped scallion

Instructions

  1. 1

Wear a glove then peel the skin of the yam. Hold your knife obliquely to cut larger cross-sections and cut the yam into thicker slices.

  2. 2

Add oil and place the yam slices in; continue frying over slow to middle fire until they are well seared. Keep tossing or moving them with any tools you prefer for an even heat.

  3. 3

Once seared, it takes about 6-7 minutes. Add light soy sauce, cumin powder, and chopped scallion.
