Ingredients
- 2 cup red beans
- 1 cup sago (or more if desired)
- 1000 ml water for cooking the red beans
- Cold water for rinsing the cooked sago
- white sugar (adjust to taste)
- A splash of coconut milk (or your choice of milk)
Instructions
- 1
Wash and freeze the red beans with water overnight. This step is crucial in helping the beans expand and soften more quickly during cooking.
- 2
After freezing, take it out from the container and let the frozen beans simmer in a pot of boiled water for 1 hour. You do not need to defrost the frozen beans and can add it directly to the pot.
- 3
In a separate pot, bring water to a boil and cook sago for 20 minutes on medium heat.
- 4
After 20 minutes, turn off the heat and let the sago sit in hot water for 15 minutes until translucent in appearance.
- 5
Use a strainer to drain and rinse the cooked sago with cold water. This helps remove the starch and prevent the sago from sticking together.
- 6
Once the red beans are cooked, add sugar, sago, and coconut milk. Adjust the taste according to your liking.
- 7
Transfer the soup to a dessert bowl and serve hot or chilled.
