Ingredients

Quantities are shown as originally provided.

  • For Making Tarri:
  • 1/2 cup Chana / Chick peas
  • 2 Finely chopped Onions
  • 1 Tomato chopped into chunks
  • 1 tsp Varhadi masala
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • Water
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • For Making Pohe:
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 2 cups Pohe / Flattened rice
  • 1 Potato chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • A pinch of Hing / Asafetida
  • 8~10 Curry leaves
  • 2 Finely chopped Onions
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves
  • Raw peanuts
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 Finely chopped Green chillies
  • Shev
  • Lemon

Instructions

    For Making Tarri:

    Wash chana really good with water and soak in enough water overnight.

    Transfer the chana into a cooker and add water.

    Cook on medium heat until 7-8 whistles.

    Heat up oil in a pan.

    Add mustard seeds and let them pop up.

  7. 7

    Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

    Add onion and fry until it turns nice golden.

    When the onion begins to turn light golden add tomato, ginger garlic paste, varhadi masala, red chilli powder, coriander powder and mix well.

    You can add garam masala, kala masala, kanda lasun masala or any other masala instead of varhadi masala.

    Fry the masala on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes.

    Add cooked chana along with water and salt.

    Mix well and cook on medium heat for about 8-10 minutes. Tarri is already.

    For Making Pohe:

    Heat up oil in a pan.

    Add mustard seeds and let them pop up.

    Add cumin seeds and let it splutter.

    Add hing, curry leaves, green chillies, and peanuts.

    Fry peanuts a little.

    When peanuts turn light reddish, add the onion.

    Fry onion until it is nice and soft.

    Add potato and a little salt.

    Mix well, cover, and cook until potato cooks nice and soft for about 7-8 minutes.

    Wash pohe really good, drain water and keep these covered.

    Add turmeric powder and mix well.

    Add soaked pohe and salt. Mix well.

    You can add a pinch of sugar if you want.

    Cover and steam pohe on medium heat for about 5-6 minutes.

    Add coriander leaves and mix well. Pohe is already.

    For Serving Tarri Pohe:

    Take a plate and serve pohe in it.

    Add tarri and garnish with finely chopped onion, coriander, and a slice of lemon.
