Ingredients

  • Ingredients mentioned below use standard measuring cups and spoons.
  • 700 g beef(for best results I would suggest using without bones).
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar(any type of vinegar should do).
  • 2 tbsp black pepper.
  • 2 tbsp dark soy sauce.
  • 1/4 th cup oil
  • A sprig of curry leaves.
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger
  • 1 inch cinnamon piece
  • 3 medium-sized onions cut into thick wedges
  • 100 g banana peppers(malumiris, this would probably be 4-5, cut into a slight angle)
  • 3 medium-sized tomatoes cut into slices.
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce(add more if necessary)
  • 1 tbsp sugar(add more if needed)
  • 2 tbsp red chilli flekes
  • Salt to season

Instructions

  1. 1

Have all the ingredients ready before making the devilled beef stir-fry.

  2. 2

Combine beef slices, vinegar, dark soy sauce, and pepper powder into a medium-sized bowl. Leave the beef to marinate for 20-30 minutes.

  3. 3

Place a frying pan or wok over low to medium heat and pour in the oil.

  4. 4

Once the oil heats, add the marinated beef to the oil(make sure you don’t add the marinade to the beef; we will be using it later in the cooking process.

  5. 5

As the beef fries, you will notice the beef letting out liquid. Stir gently and let the liquid evaporate.

  6. 6

This would take about 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the heat you use.

  7. 7

Once the liquid evaporates, the beef will begin to fry.

  8. 8

Constantly move the beef slices so they will fry evenly.

  9. 9

Once brown and crispy, set aside in a bowl.

  10. 10

Place the same pan you used to fry beef over medium heat.

  11. 11

Add a few tablespoons of oil if necessary, then add curry leaves, cinnamon piece, minced ginger, and minced garlic.

  12. 12

Cook over a low-medium heat until they release their aroma.

  13. 13

Make sure to constantly stir to avoid the ingredients from burning.

  14. 14

Add the onions and banana peppers(substitute with bell peppers).

  15. 15

Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until they turn soft.

  16. 16

Once the banana peppers(Bell peppers) are soft, add the tomatoes.

  17. 17

Maintain the heat and add the fried beef.

  18. 18

Combine all the ingredients in the pan with the fried beef.

  19. 19

Add the tomato sauce and sugar.

  20. 20

Followed by the red chilli flakes and the marinade.

  21. 21

Combine well and season with salt.

  22. 22

Cook until the sauce thickens over low-medium heat.

  23. 23

Taste and adjust the flavours as per your need. You can add more sugar, extra sauce to perfect the spicy beef stir fry. once cooked, serve warm.
