Ingredients

Quantities are shown as originally provided.

  • 250 g of thinly sliced beef (I bought a tray beef sukiyaki/shabu shabu from Cold Storage)
  • 1/2 yellow onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup cauliflower
  • 1/2 cup broccoli
  • 1 carrot (sliced)
  • 2 tbsp chopped spring onions for garnishing
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp ginger (grated)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sake
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. 1

In a saucepan of boiling water par-boil the beef for 5-10 seconds. (DO NOT cook it through!).

  2. 2

This helps remove odour, scum, and excess fats.

  3. 3

    Drain and set aside.

  4. 4

    Get your sauce ready.

  5. 5

Add all ingredients for the sauce in a bowl.

  6. 6

Heat pan on medium-high heat with sesame oil.

  7. 7

Stir fry onions until slightly soft.

  8. 8

    Pour in sauce mixture.

  9. 9

    Bring to boil.

  10. 10

    Add beef and coat well.

  11. 11

Cover and let it simmer on low heat for 5 mins.

  12. 12

Then uncover and let sauce reduce a little.

  13. 13

    Season to taste.

  14. 14

In another pot, blanch veg in salted water.

  15. 15

Serve over white rice and garnish with chopped spring onions.
