Ingredients

Quantities are shown as originally provided.

  • 1 lb (500g) ground beef
  • salt
  • ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup onion (diced )
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 28 oz (800g) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 1/3 cups chicken broth ( or beef broth)
  • 8 oz (230g) spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon parsley (chopped )
  • salt (to taste)

Instructions

  1. 1

Season the ground beef with salt and ground black pepper, then set aside.

  2. 2

Heat a pan, skillet, or pot over medium heat and add the olive oil. Sauté the onion and garlic until aromatic and the onion becomes soft. Add the ground beef, stirring continuously with a wooden spatula to break up any lumps.

  3. 3

Add the crushed tomatoes, broth, spaghetti, and chopped parsley. Press the spaghetti down so that it is covered by the sauce.

  4. 4

Cover the pan, skillet, or pot and cook for 14 minutes. At the 10-minute mark, uncover the lid and use the spatula to stir the spaghetti, ensuring they don’t stick to the bottom. Add salt to taste.

  5. 5

"Check the doneness of the spaghetti after 14 minutes. If it's still not cooked, add more broth and cook for a few more minutes. I prefer to cook my spaghetti al dente, as it will continue to cook after you remove it from the heat. Serve the spaghetti and meat sauce with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
