  • 1 Steak
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tbsp Garlic Butter
  • 2 cups Day Old Rice
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1/4 Onion
  • 1/2 cup Carrots
  • 2 stalks Green Onion
  • 1 tbsp Garlic Butter
  • 3 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 tsp White Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp MSG
  • 1 cup Kewpie Mayo
  • 2 tbsp Melted Butter
  • 1 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Sriracha
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 3 tbsp Pineapple Juice
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

Instructions

  1. 1

    Make the yum yum sauce:

  2. 2

Combine Kewpie mayo with melted butter, ketchup, sriracha, sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and pineapple juice in a mixing bowl and whisk until fully combined. Transfer the sauce to a squeeze bottle and refrigerate while you finish the rest of the recipe. For the best results, make the yum yum sauce a day ahead so the flavors can marry

  3. 3

    Make the garlic butter:

  4. 4

In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter with minced garlic, soy sauce, white pepper, sugar, and MSG. Mix until fully incorporated. Set the garlic butter aside

  5. 5

    Cook the fried rice:

  6. 6

Dice the onion and the carrot. Finely chop the green onions

  7. 7

Heat a frying pan or wok over high heat and add oil. Add the diced onion, carrot, and green onions (reserve some of the green onions to use as a garnish), and sauté for one to two minutes until they begin to soften. Push the vegetables to one side of the pan and crack in two eggs. Scramble the eggs and stir them into the vegetables

  8. 8

Before adding the rice to the pan, use your hand to break up the clumps and separate the grains of rice. Add the rice and continue to fry and stir until the rice is tender. Then, add half of the garlic butter and fry for another couple of minutes, until the rice is heated through and evenly coated. Transfer the fried rice to a bowl and set aside

  9. 9

    Cook the steak:

  10. 10

Cut the steak into one-inch cubes and season with salt. Heat a clean pan over high heat until very hot. Add the steak in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Let the steak sit undisturbed for about one minute to develop a hard sear. Toss briefly and let it sear for another minute. Add the remaining garlic butter and toss the steak to coat. Continue cooking until the steak reaches your desired doneness

  11. 11

    Serve:

  12. 12

Put the fried rice in a serving bowl and top with the garlic butter steak. Drizzle the yum yum sauce over the top or serve it on the side. Garnish with additional chopped green onions and enjoy!
