- 45 g Ground whole oats (1/2 cup)
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- 1 Carrot

- 1 Medium banana

- 70 g Peanut butter (1/4 cup)
- 140 g Plain greek yogurt (1/2 cup)
- 1 Large egg
- 2 tbsp Natural peanut butter
- 1 tbsp Cornstarch

When it comes to making cakes for dogs it's important that you take extra care when selecting your ingredients. There are a lot of ingredients that we can't give dogs so we need to be extra careful. I've done careful research on what kind of ingredients are dog-friendly and developed this recipe with all their favorites! When selecting your ingredients it's important to choose them in their most natural and whole form. For example, while dogs can have all-purpose flour it can upset their stomachs in larger amounts. Try to use wholegrain flours or flours like oat flour, almond meal, or coconut flour. I've used oat flour, aka ground oats, in this recipe but feel free to replace it with any other wholegrain dog-friendly flour! The ingredients in this cake are quite forgiving and easily swapped out for your dog's favorite flavors. Mix and match to create your dogs ideal cake! I use ground whole oats in this recipe. The flour binds all the ingredients together to form the structure of the cake. If you don't have oats you can replace them with whole wheat flour, whole grain flour, rice flour, coconut flour, or almond meal. Baking powder is safe for your dog! Baking powder gives the cake lift and lightness. This gives the baked cake that cake-like consistency! Grated carrot gives the cake moisture and flavor, while also making up a large bulk of the cake's structure. The mashed banana adds natural sweetness to the cake without using other sweeteners like honey or maple syrup that are typically used in dog cakes. I like to use bananas, as a large amount of sweetener can upset your dog's stomach. You can also replace it with applesauce or pumpkin puree if you desire! Peanut butter is loved by all dogs! This gives the cake a delicious flavor that your dogs will love. Make sure you use 100% natural peanut butter, preferably unsalted. Some peanut butter will have xylitol, a sweetener. Make sure you check the ingredients of your peanut butter as xylitol is toxic to dogs. The egg acts as a binder for the cake. If you prefer to leave the egg out you can add 1/4 cup apple sauce instead. Happy baking
