Ingredients

Quantities are shown as originally provided.

  • 500 g ground chicken meat (lean )
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons milk
  • 1 egg (slightly beaten)
  • 2 cloves garlic (crushed)
  • 1 small onion (minced finely)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce

Instructions

  1. 1

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken meat, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, garlic, onions, salt and pepper. The egg, milk and breadcrumbs are the key ingredients to bind the mixture together. The rest of the ingredients is just for flavour. Using your hands, spatula or wooden spoon, mix all ingredients until they are well combined.

  2. 2

Divide chicken into 4 or 5 piles (you decide which portion is best for you) and using your hands, shape into patties. First pick up a handful of the mixture and roll into a ball. Then using the palm of your hand, press down on the top of the ball and make it into a disk. Using your fingers, smooth and shape the outside edges until it is perfectly round.

  3. 3

Preheat a pan or non-stick skillet over medium heat and add some olive oil to it. Place the burger patties in and cook them until golden brown and cooked through, about 5 minutes per side. (Cooking time will vary according to the thickness of your burger). It is best when cooking these burgers to flip them only once.

  4. 4

Place the cooked hamburger patties on a toasted hamburger bun, topped with your favourite condiments and served. You can also serve them as a hot hamburger or solo with a side dish of fries or mashed potatoes.

  5. 5

It's ideal to use these homemade burger patties to cook your homemade hamburgers for your children to pack as a lunch pack to school too.
